Wildlife

A green oasis in the City

We encourage a great diversity of wildlife to the Garden as part of our sustainable approach to horticulture. This makes the Garden a green oasis in the City that’s great for spotting wildlife from dragonflies to sparrowhawks. We are recognised as a City Wildlife Site particularly for the invertebrates and mosses that occur here.

Our wildlife friendly approach also ensures that the Garden has an army of birds, insects and amphibians to help control pests and diseases.

Seen any interesting wildlife within the grounds of the Botanic Garden? Send your questions and observations to wildlife@botanic.cam.ac.uk or use our new iRecord activity called CU Wildlife Recording.

For wildlife sightings beyond the boundaries of the Garden, you can submit your observations to iRecord: iRecord | Manage and share your wildlife records (brc.ac.uk)
