This charming species is adding a splash of colour to the Rock Garden.
A member of the iris family (Iridaceae), the genus Sisyrinchium comprises some 90 species of annuals and perennials from North and South America. All produce clumps of linear leaves, and bear cup or trumpet-shaped flowers on erect stems. This species is a native of California, where it grows in coniferous forests. Growing to only 20cm in height this species is a good one for the rock garden, where its rich, golden flowers add to the seasonal floral interest.
