This perennial is sending up cymes of lilac-blue flowers in the Scented Garden.
Highly attractive to both gardeners and bees, this species earns its place in the Scented Garden for its aromatic, silvery foliage. One of approximately 250 species of catmint, Nepeta racemosa ‘Walker’s Low’ is one of the more desirable selections, reaching up to 90cm in height and spread. It flourishes in full sun in well-drained soil and will continue to produce flowers from May through to September if regularly deadheaded. The genus is highly diverse, and includes annuals and perennials from cool, moist habitats to scrub, stony slopes and high alpine zones of the northern hemisphere, and occurs in a wide range of colours, from purple to yellow and white. A member of the Lamiaceae (mint family) the genus bears tubular, two-lipped flowers typical of the genus.
