This wonderfully scented shrubby honeysuckle is in full flower in our Lonicera collection at the eastern end of the Garden.
This large, shrubby species is at its best during the winter months when the naked stems are clothed in white flowers. These are carried in clusters of up to four flowers, each with a corolla tube and reflexed lobes, from which emerge white stamens with yellow anthers. It bears close resemblance to both it’s parents: L. fragrantissima and L. standishii, which both originate from China.
