The cheery winter aconite works well in combination with Galanthus nivalis in the Winter Garden.
The Winter Garden displays a diverse range of trees, shrubs, herbaceous perennials and bulbs. Eranthis hyemalis is one of several winter-flowering bulbs to extend interest here. Occurring naturally in woodlands and shady spots from France to Bulgaria, this species is one of seven. They are not pure bulbs, but rhizomes, producing deeply lobed basal leaves which form a ruff, or collar, beneath the terminal flowers. Once established the winter aconite will seed to produce a dense carpet of golden blooms.
