This unusual shrub is putting on a show of flower in the Winter Garden.
A member of the Daphne family Thymeleaceae, Edgeworthia chrysantha ‘Grandiflora’ is distinct in it’s appearance, having a globose, terminal head of numerous individual, tubular yellow flowers. The selection ‘Grandiflora’ has, as the name implies, flowers larger than those of the straight species, which originates in Asia. The common name for this plant is paperbush, in reference to the use of the cinnamon-coloured bark for paper making in Japan. If grown in moist, well-drained soil and a sunny site E. chrysantha ‘Grandiflora’ can grow to 1.5m in height and spread.
