This trumpet vine is scrambling up supports in the Glasshouse Bays.
A member of the tropical and warm-temperate family Bignoniaceae, this evergreen climbing plant is enjoying this sheltered position in the Glasshouse Bays. The trumpet-shaped flowers are typical of the family, and give rise to the common name of its more familiar relative Campsis radicans, or trumpet vine. The common name of Bignonia capreolata is the cross vine, which it takes from the shape of a Greek cross in the cross section of the stem. The specific epithet capreolata refers to the tendrils which help this plant climb up supports. Occurring in the south-east United States, this species can reach up to 10m in height.
