Marking the junction of the new path that cuts through the research plots to the Garden Cafe stands Berberis stenophylla ‘Pink Pearl’. The rosemary like foliage on arching branches are strong with clusters of pale yellow lanterns comprising an inner cowbell of petals and an outer whorl hovering above, each flower suspended on a delicate thread.
There doesn’t seem to be much very pink about it – perhaps it refers to the berries that follow?
