This unusual plant in the Malvaceae is a tender perennial (we treat is as an annual) and bears large, pale yellow with a lime tinge late in the season.
It grows to approximately 1.5m here at the Garden and the whole plant is covered in coarse hairs which catch the light beautifully, especially on the enormous buds. It apparently has edible foliage and originates in SE Asia, where it’s called Aikiba.
