The plantings in this house highlight the unique floras of Oceanic islands, which have evolved in complete isolation. Many of the species found in these islands are endemic, and occur nowhere else in the world, which brings its own challenges. Plantings have been incorporated into harsh, rocky landscapes to replicate the habitats in which they grow and to create an ambience typical of their homelands.

Species found here range from bulbous Scilla latifolia to succulent Aeonium lindleyi and shrubby Echium candicans, with its vibrant blue flower spike. All survive in harsh, hot, dry, rocky habitats, and many are threatened by loss of habitat for development, or by changing climate.
