A celebration of summer and music, Sounds Green takes place every Wednesday evening in July on the Garden’s Main Lawn, providing a perfect opportunity to embrace sights, sounds and summer scents in the Garden with family and friends on a (hopefully) warm, summer evening.
- Open to all ages.
- Bring a rug and picnic (optional); food, ice creams and drinks on sale.
- Music from 6.15pm; Garden closes at 8.00pm.
Please note: due to limited capacity and to avoid disappointment, all paying visitors should buy Garden tickets in advance via the Botanic Garden website.
Online ticket sales close at midnight the day before each concert. Any remaining tickets will be available on the Gate on the day of each concert, but this cannot be guaranteed.

Friends of the Botanic Garden and CU students are admitted free, do not need a ticket but must bring their card with them to allow entry. Children under 17 are admitted free and do not need a ticket but must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
AfroTema

From the sandy streets of Senegal to leafy Cambridge, local band AfroTema plays a mix of Senegalese salsa, mbalax, afro-rock and reggae. The band’s original music is inspired by the tempo of Dakar and maternal wisdom. The band has been enjoyed at many Cambridge events. Wherever they perform AfroTema gets an irresistible reaction from people to let go and live the moment.

Organised Chaos’ approach to music is based on the joy of melody and dance – exploring musical byways which take in a whole host of traditions, from Shakespeare songs to tango, and from gypsy jazz to Elvis Costello. In fact, anything which tends to blur the outline of the music and open the boundaries of what can be called jazz. Tonight’s programme focuses on swing and jazz standards from the 30s to the present.

Truly Medley Deeply is an exciting hybrid of live band, DJ and jukebox – a duo that produces a huge, full-band sound, thanks to the multitasking lead vocalists Nick Goodwin and James Partridge.
Their trademark is seamless arrangements that range from Motown classics, favourite hits and epic stadium rock to classic House and Gangsta Rap – all condensed into intricate, full-flowing and continuous medleys.

Singer-songwriter Noga Ritter, originally from Israel, brings together some of London’s finest musicians to form her genre-defying band. Singing in Hebrew and English, her forceful lyrics range from personal experiences to political messages, expressed through a toe-tapping fusion of Afro grooves with jazz influences.

A stylish and elegant singer-pianist, Ruth Applin presents classic jazz, blues and bossa nova featuring material drawn from the Great American Songbook and singers such as Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday. Ruth will be joined by acclaimed saxophonist Josh Kemp – ‘Wonderfully rich toned… a nuanced and original sound,’ (Time Out), together with the swinging rhythm section of Tom Mark on double bass and Les Cirkel on drums.
