Garden clippings: 2-6 November

Bringing weekly news updates from the Garden during the November lockdown.

06 November 2020
Week commencing 2 November:

Just before this second lockdown started on 5 November, we were sad to say ‘goodbye’ to the Blue Atlas Cedar – Cedrus atlantica ‘Glauca’, situated between the Main Lawn and Garden Café area of the Garden. It was an old tree, probably among our earliest plantings. It’s been badly storm-damaged in recent years and no longer safe. As our Head of Horticulture Sally Petitt said: ‘it’s now time to say farewell old friend – never easy’.

Over on the Limestone Rock Garden, our Alpine team Paul and Simon have been busy cutting back the perennials, weeding and giving the area an autumnal tidy up.

Pete and David from our Demonstration and Display team (D&D!) have been busy planting up foxgloves and primulas around Newton’s Apple tree ready for an uplifting display next spring!

Pete and David have also top dressed and mulched the recently planted Grass Maze and are hoping to use part of the old Cedar to make a new ‘chair’ for the centre…

More news from the team next week. We wishing everyone a bright and relaxing weekend, CUBG.
