Science on Sundays

Science on Sundays is a programme of free, informal, monthly science talks taking place from March to July

The series aims to bring the latest discoveries in plant science, as well as research linked to the plant collection at CUBG, to our visitors in a 30 minute nutshell. 

Science on Sundays in 2022

These will be live in-person talks taking place in the Botanic Garden Classroom for those visiting the the Garden on the day.

Talk programme 2022:

13 March – Sam Buckton, Department of Environment and Geography, University of York-  Pasties and pigmies: the plant galls and leaf-miners of Cambridge University Botanic Garden

10 April – Dr Miranda Sinnott-Armstrong, Department of Chemistry, University of Cambridge – Fatty fruits and feathered friends: how novel fruit colours communicate with animals

8 May – Dr Jake Harris, Department of Plant Sciences, University of Cambridge – Plant memory: form and function in a decentralised ‘brain’

12 June – Simon Chen, Department of Zoology, University of Cambridge – Changing the world or facing reality: How caterpillars overcome slippery leaves

10 July – Dr Fiona Leigh, NIAB – Capturing Lost wheat genetic diversity

14 August (prerecorded) – A compilation of all 2021 Science on Sunday talk recordings uploaded to You tube for you to view at your leisure.
