We can offer behind-the-scenes tours as well as assisted workshops and bespoke sessions on topics ranging from biogeography, botany, conservation, and ecology, to plant evolution and diversity and more.
Please contact the Higher Education Co-ordinator at education@ botanic.cam.ac.uk to discuss your requirements. In many cases HE visits can be provided free of charge if the Higher Education Officer has been consulted.
University lecturers or other HE educators are also welcome to book unassisted educational visits to the garden for their group of students free of charge. Resources to support such visits are currently in development.
Over the last few decades, the number of graduate and postgraduate courses concentrating on whole-plant science have declined dramatically. This lack of provision is of concern, not least of all due to its potential impact on our ability to understand the value of plants to society and hence to conserve them. Botanic gardens have an important role to play in demonstrating the fundamental importance of plants and are hence well placed to teach a range of higher education disciplines that are being lost from many university curricula including botany, taxonomy, ecology, ethnobotany, horticulture, zoology, and plant diversity. They can also offer training to teachers and students in environmental education and sustainable development.
