Please note that the Garden is closed 24 December – 1 January inclusive.
We reopen 10am, 2 January 2021.
Magic and Mayhem!
Have fun exploring the Garden this Christmas but be warned! Mischievous elves are sprinkling seasonal fun around and visitors may discover some unexpected surprises!
Map and I-Spy activity are available from the ticket offices if you’d like to make it into a magical hunt.
Winter Garden
Enjoy winter colour, structure and scent with a walk around our Winter Garden. It was the first winter garden to be created at a botanic garden in the UK and remains at the forefront of winter garden planting, demonstrating a wide variety of plants to give as much winter interest as possible.
Winter Warmers at the Garden Café
It may be cold outside, but what better way (or excuse!) is there to warm up on the Café Terrace with a steaming cup of creamy hot chocolate and slice of cake from the Garden Café. Or why not treat yourself to one of the Cafe’s famous sausage rolls or a smoked salmon bagel or homemade soup? If its a bit too chilly to sit on the Terrace, don’t worry, some socially distanced tables are available inside.
Give the gift of Friendship this Christmas
For a keen gardener, or simply giving someone somewhere beautiful to visit at their leisure, membership of the Garden’s Friends scheme is a delightful gift. If you pay by Direct Debit, you will receive 14 months of membership for the price of 12.
Christmas Gifts and stocking fillers
A visit to the Garden isn’t complete without a trip to the Garden Shop, and this Christmas, as well as the usual unique and beautiful botanical gifts and plants, we will also have CUBG face masks – the perfect stocking filler! The shop is now also stocking house plants, so you can keep your green fingers warm and in practice over the winter months.
For gin lovers, CUBG Curator’s Gin from the Cambridge Distillery makes a perfect present. Our Curator’s Gin was created using botanicals from the Garden, including lavender, ‘green ginger’ rosemary, Newton’s apple and lemon balm. Available to buy from the Botanic Garden shop.
Some Botanic Garden products are also now available from the new Curating Cambridge online store, as well as beautiful and unique items inspired by the collections of our sister University of Cambridge museums.
